balance

I fell asleep on the couch at 9PM earlier today and had a dream about work.  Nothing interesting happened in my dream.  It was basically a continuation of my day at work.  It wasn't even a dramatic workday dream, it was just a busy non-dramatic day at work kind of dream.  I woke up at midnight, and I thought, seriously, this is what I dream about now?

I thought about whether my life is stagnant, about whether I've become complacent about it, and I considered what kind of things would bring me excitement.  A new project?  A new book?  A vacation?  Then I realized the more apt question is, what does excitement mean to me and is that what I really want?  I realized it's not excitement I want, it's not something new that I want, but I want to enjoy the great things I already have, and in order to do this I need balance.

I love my job, but I don't want to do it all day.  I love a lot of things, but anything in excess becomes un-enjoyable.  If I'm always mired in work (as I've been the past few months), then I can't see it for what it is and I won't be able to appreciate it, and in turn I won't fully enjoy it.

So the real question is: how do I balance my life?
